Individual Note: The first mention of Margaret in Jennie Lowry's diary is for July 4, 1909, when she says "Frank took Miss Jones for a buggy ride after the work was done." Over the course of the 1909 diary, Margaret becomes Frank's "girl," and finally his "sweetheart." Later in the diary, Jennie mentions a funeral for "Mrs. M.V. Horney, formerly Miss Hazel Copley," who is a cousin to Margaret Hall. Also, a picture of Frank, Margaret, Bill, and Bob includes Dorothy Batty who is listed as a cousin. (For future research)
Margaret was a nurse. According to hospital records, Margaret entered in May, 1902, and graduated from the Nursing program, in 1904 from the Springfield (Illinois) Hospital and Training School, which was founded under the auspices of the Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church. The by-laws of the institution were amended in 1931, changing the charter a general non-denominational hospital, with the community assuming operation and control of the hospital. The name was later changed to Memorial Hospital.
The 1910 census of Springfield, Illinois from (http://persi.heritagequestonline.com) says Margaret lived with her sister Nell on west Jefferson St, boarding with John and Elizabeth Canterbury. Margaret is 30 yrs old and Nell is 28. Maragaret is listed as a "trained nurse", doing "private work".
